First Underground MBR Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jinan

Jinan is home to 6 million inhabitants and is the capital of Shandong province, China. Located in a historically industrial region, the province has relatively higher water resource consumption.The Jinan East Station District is a large development area on the northeastern edge of Jinan. Due to the large wastewater treatment capacity and limited available space, the underground MBR wastewater treatment plant becomes the best choice for this project.

With the ground area of 3.766 hectares, the treatment capacity of Jinan East Station Wastewater Treatment Plant is 100,000 m³/d. The plant started its duty since 2020, is the first large-scale underground wastewater treatment plant in Jinan City. The completion and operation of this plant not only solved the problem of wastewater treatment in the East Railway Station area, but also effectively alleviated the operation pressure of Jinan No. 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jinan City.

The main process of this project adopts advanced MBR Technology. The technological process is as follows: pretreatment (coarse and fine screens + aerated sand sedimentation tank + membrane screens) + AAO + MBR + UV disinfection treatment. The sludge is dehydrated and reduced by "mechanical belt thickener + high pressure diaphragm filter press", and then it is sent out for composting or incineration, so that the sludge can be reduced, stabilized and harmless.

Jiangsu Kami Membrane Technology Co., Ltd. provides the process design, equipment supply, installation and commissioning services for the core process section of the MBR system. More than 210,000 square meters of MBR membranes have been installed in the system, and a total of 20 series membrane basins have been designed.

MBR process is a new type of wastewater treatment technology combining membrane separation unit and biological treatment unit, which can efficiently separates solid and liquid, and obtain stable water for direct use. This process has the significant characteristic of less ground occupation, which is more suitable for the large-scale underground wastewater treatment project. The success of this project provides a great reference for the construction of large-scale underground wastewater treatment plant.
