Application Overview

Polysaccharides are widely found in animal cell membranes, plant and microbial cell walls. They are a class of natural polymer compounds and constitute one of the four basic substances of life. In the past two decades, polysaccharide research has developed rapidly, forming an unprecedented trend, which can be widely used in medicine, health care products and functional foods, and has broad market prospects as green biomedical products.

The traditional method of extracting polysaccharides from traditional Chinese medicine is mainly water extraction and alcohol precipitation method, which has many shortcomings, such as poor selectivity, resulting in serious loss of total solids and active ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine. Alcohol can precipitate acidic polysaccharides, but many acidic polysaccharides are just important active ingredients. As a new type of separation technology, membrane separation is used for the separation and purification of active substances such as polysaccharides and enzymes. It has high yield and little damage. This technology is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, and it is gradually replacing traditional Chinese medicine due to its advantages of high efficiency and energy saving. At present, ultrafiltration and microfiltration are the most widely used technologies.
